Represent Then!

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35, NIV).

While traveling out of state, I visited a restaurant and experienced something that I haven’t in a long while: great customer service! It appears people just don’t care anymore. But, when I tell you this waitress was on point, on all cylinders, it was almost like she was reading my mind. I typically order the same thing when I go to Cracker Barrel, but again this was in a different place. I ordered breakfast, and most of the time I have to ask for extra syrup, but when she brought out my order, she had extra syrup already. Before I could finish my drink she was there with another one. I asked that my pancakes be light skin (We’ll talk about that at another time lol.), and she made sure they were what I wanted and they were. She did not miss a beat.

While sitting there watching her do her thing, I thought to myself what an awesome representative she was for her company. She was so good, my husband felt the need to let all of her coworkers know as we left their establishment, just how great she was and told them they needed to give her additional stars to go on her uniform. I immediately thought about how are we representing our Father.

On the flip side of the coin, two of my husband’s coworkers were off work, on their own private time, at a local casino in town. Somehow they got into an altercation, I mean a real fight at a place outside of the workplace. After returning to work on Monday, they ended up in HR and were written up because they said although the incident happened away from the job, they still represent their company and it warranted a write up. It didn’t seem fair to me, but when they signed paperwork to be employed by the company, being an upstanding employee on and off the property was evidently written in.

I have attended church small groups they call it at my church and have sat in the groups knowing that many there were prejudice, unloving, judgmental and would be thinking to myself, should I even come back and are these the people who come to church Sunday in and out talking about they love God?

After the unusual proficiency of the worker, I thought to myself, she is the image that should be displayed when it comes to depicting her company. I also said to myself, “Lord, this is how I want to portray you”. I want to leave an impression on people that make them want to know You.

I want to live the abundant life that compels mankind to want You, trust, believe and depend on You. Just as the young lady knew what I wanted even before I spoke it, and made sure the things I requested was granted, our Creator King is the same way. He knows what we have need of and when we petition Him, He grants it to us according to His purpose.

We characterize Him when we are what He said we are, when our walk lines up with our talk. If we proclaim He is our everything, our Healer, Comforter, Peace Giver, Joy, Provider, Banner, and Protection, our lives should reflect it.

No matter where we are, inside of the church walls, which is where all of the masks are on and everyone is on their best church behavior or outside the walls, which is where it count most — someone is always watching. My prayer is that as we serve the world, our lives be the mirror that reflect the image of our King and leave them speechless as I was. In awe of the true definition of “in His service”. Let’s represent the Kingdom!
