Do It Then, I Dare You!

Raise your hands if you have purchased work out videos telling yourself, this is the one, this is the year, we’re going to get this done? I’m so glad I’m not the only one in this room. After a few months of inactivity, we see a new video or diet plan and we swear by it. This is the one for sure and add it to the collection of many.

We all know that water is good for us and that our bodies need it in order to live.  I’m not going to ask us to tell on ourselves as to how many of us choose water over all the other options. We share our plans and new resolutions with friends. We say to keep us honest and on track. Everyone is excited with great expectation. Six months later, the one who placed their videos on the shelf to collect dust looks and feels the same or worse. The one who applied theirs, appearance is stunning, attitude and health is great.

During the conversation the friend with no change states, my program didn’t work. What did you do to achieve your results? They reply, I followed the program as directed, I woke up every morning whether I felt like it or not and did the workout — Monday through Friday. What about you they ask…..we might as well pray since there is silence.

We as a people are so quick to say something doesn’t work when we haven’t even tried it. Or we try it one time and that’s it and we think life’s situations are supposed to change overnight. We need to ask ourselves, did I even, ever put the DVD into the player? Did I do one workout? How do we know water is not the answer to our bodies problems if we don’t drink it? What good is it to have knowledge of computers? The ins and outs, but you work as a jack of all trades, never utilizing what you know?

Which brings me to my point in this message. We all know the Bible, some more than others, but who is doing the Word, actually applying what we know? I mean just straight up living the Word. And I’m not saying we are perfect — although that should be our goal and I do believe it can be done. Why? Because our big brother Jesus showed us how to make it happen.

I know that y’all are thinking, He was God’s Son, and you would be correct. But it is also correct that we are His sons and daughters as well. And while Jesus was here in a dirt-body He was just like you and I. God would not ask something of us if it could not be done, it wouldn’t be fair to us.

All throughout our life, we are learning. The differences in the outcomes are the ones who applied what they learned and those who chose not to. One of the reasons Jesus came was to show us how to be royal sons and daughters, by speaking the Word of the Father and doing it. James 1:22 says, “Don’t just listen to God’s Word, you must do what it says, otherwise you are only fooling yourselves (New Living Translation).

I don’t know what else to tell you except don’t be mad at the ones who are getting Kingdom results. For those who are in application mode, keep moving forward. For those who are filled to the brim with truth, but no activity — I challenge you to start or shhhhhhhhh!
